Lots of people make their own edibles, and for many different reasons. Some people want to get the cannabinoid dosage and ratio they want. Others like to be in control of all the ingredients in their food. Still others just like the at-home-chemistry involved with making homemade edibles.
We got our start with making edibles at home in our kitchen for ourselves and our friends, so no matter your reasons for making your own, we support them!
Infused gummies are easy and fun to make and only require a few steps to go from raw ingredients to a finished product. Clean and tested inputs like distillate and isolate are now available in regulated shops, and you can always make your own cannabis oil to use in edibles.
Cannabis-Infused Edible Gummy Recipe
Ingredients
- 28 gr. Gelatin (3 packs from a Knox 4-pack box)
- 1 cup cold water
- 1/4 cup white corn syrup
- 3 boxes of Jell-O
- Cannabis oil (no more than 1/4 cup)
- 2 drams of flavouring oil
Equipment
- Cooking pot
- Silicone spatula
- Molds
- Plastic squeeze bottle
- Silicone funnel
Directions
1. Bloom (or rehydrate) your gelatin. Place 1 cup of cold water in a bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin on top of the water and stir only until incorporated into the water. Let this mixture stand for 5 minutes.
2. Warm the bloomed gelatin on medium-low heat, without stirring, until the gelatin is completely melted. This takes 10-15 minutes.
3. Add Jell-o all at once to the mixture and stir until incorporated and mixture is heated throughout and uniform in appearance. Then add the corn syrup and mix until fully incorporated. Around 3-5 minutes for this part.
4. Add your cannabis oil and flavouring to the mixture and use a silicone spatula to stir until incorporated. (Be sure you’re using a flavour, not a bakery emulsion!)
5. Continue stirring vigorously on medium-low heat until you see the first bubble. Continue to constantly stir, scraping the sides of the pot with the spatula, for 2 minutes.
6. Remove from heat and let sit for 3 minutes.
7. Spoon the film off the top of the gummy mixture and discard it in your compost bin or garbage.
8. Use a funnel to pour the gummy mixture from the pot into a plastic squeeze bottle; dispense into molds or ice cube trays by squeezing the bottle. Be careful that the top doesn’t pop off during this step!
9. Refrigerate gummies in molds for 6 hours. It’s usually easiest to put the molds on a baking sheet, so they stay level and undisturbed in the fridge.
10. Remove from molds and enjoy! Keep any unused gummies in an air-tight container in your fridge and be sure to label the container so no one mistakes your infused gummies for a non-infused treat!
How to find your dosage
Unless you want to send your gummies out to a lab to be tested for cannabinoid potency, you will have to figure out the dosage of your gummies. To do so, take the total amount of cannabinoids you put in and divide it by the number of gummies you made. If you used 1 gram of 88% THC distillate, then you would have put 880 mg of THC in your mixture.
1000mg x 88% THC = 880mg of THC
Let’s say you made 40 gummies. Take the total amount of THC and divide it by the number of gummies to get the final dosage. In this case, it’s 22mg of THC per gummy.
